Federal Organisation of (ex-)Users and Survivors of
Psychiatry in Germany

Target group: All people, who have experiences with
psychiatric treatment at the receiving end, their friends
and supporters

Aims: Contact, mutual exchange, advice in topics
like psychiatric drugs, legal issues, social welfare, computer
problems and much more. The BPE members wants especially
one thing: a reformed psychiatry.

Enhanced rights-situation for (ex-)users and survivors
of psychiatry, promotion of self-help.

Development of meaningful alternatives to the mentality
of care and guardianship within the traditional medical
psychiatric structures by involvement of the of (ex-)users
and survivors of psychiatry as equal partners.

Subject orientated psychiatry, which is founded on
the experiences of the (ex-)users and survivors of psychiatry
in connection with their life history; offering of dialogue
and support in working out the contents of psychoses
and depression, taking into consideration the needs
of the of (ex-)users and survivors of psychiatry.

Organisation form: National registered non-profit-making
and democratically organized organisation with place for
a wide spectrum of different psychiatry-political ideas

Status of workers: 1 paid worker (advisor for problems
with psychiatric drugs), honorarium paid for computer advisor,
telephonic- primary contact, accounting and website management

Funding: Membership fees, sponsorship financial
support by health insurance institutions, the German Governmental
Ministry for Health and Social Welfare and by the Federal
Labour Office. Decision of the General Assembly not to accept
money from drug companies, and not to participate as co-organisator
beside drug companies

Publications: Website www.bpe-online.de,
member newsletter about four times yearly, videodocumentations,
written statements to special topics, regular contributions
to the magazine Psychosocial Review (in German language),
folders
